What is a Career Pathway

The Center for Career and Professional Development has designed the following “Career Pathways” as resources for Mercerians to explore the world of work. Career Pathways, also known as Career Paths and Clusters, combine several similar fields into like-minded groups to help students investigate the many opportunities available in their chosen career field. Mercerians are encouraged to explore all career pathways that are of interest to them. There are no limits to where a Mercer Degree can take you.

You are not limited by your degree! A specific degree or major does not necessitate which job you accept or what areas you can explore. Are you a history major who wants to go into entrepreneurship? GREAT! A chemistry student who wants to explore public policy? AWESOME! You are the designer of your future career, and these pathways are communities for you to explore and learn more.

Not yet sure of your Path? No Problem! We have designed a specific community for those who are still exploring or may be considering a change. It is not unusual for college students to change their minds about what they want to study or where they want to work. Our Outcomes

Career Outcomes Data Collection Information

The Mercer University Center for Career and Professional Development administers the Graduate Career Outcomes Survey to degree completers each semester. The Graduate Career Outcomes survey consists of a set of questions developed by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (*NACE) along with a set of Mercer University-specific questions. The survey questions collect detailed information about the graduate’s post-graduation career plans, career field experience engagement, resource utilization, and career decision-making process. The data reported in this survey represents a graduate’s career outcome within the first 6 months after graduation.

The results represent the population of graduates for whom Mercer has reasonable and verifiable information concerning their post-graduation career activities, either from responses to the Graduate Career Outcomes Survey or from other sources, such as faculty or staff, direct contact with graduates, or web and database searches. The targeted population included graduates from all baccalaureate, graduate, and professional programs, except those from the School of Law.
