POSITION SUMMARY

The Content Fellow will have opportunities to work on a range of communications projects that engage and inform alumni, prospective students, and on-campus audiences. The Fellow may create written material for outlets such as the College website, The Grinnell Magazine, and the other communications platforms; and may also create visual and social media content and other digital communications.

The Fellow will play a role in the development of the weekly Campus Memo that serves as a communications resource for informing students, faculty, and staff about news of interest to the larger campus community in an engaging, timely, and accessible manner.

The ideal candidate would be a recent (within four years) graduate of Grinnell College with excellent writing, oral communication, research, organizational, and multitasking skills to work on a range of print and digital communications that convey the heart and soul of Grinnell College to varied audiences. For a talented, motivated, collaborative communicator with a professional attitude, this can be a highly rewarding first job, with hands-on experience to build a solid portfolio of print, digital, and web work.

This is a 1-year term position with the possibility for an additional year extension.

Key Responsibilities

The Content Fellow contributes to the creation of multi-platform content in support of Grinnell’s mission, goals, and strategic priorities, and will:

  • Work with team members to develop and execute creative, engaging content that meets project objectives for campus stakeholders, donors, and alumni, student recruitment, image-building, and other operations of the College as assigned.
  • Monitor engagement with our content and share insights and recommendations to improve and optimize content.
  • Develop discipline expertise, remain up to date with industry best practices, and share skills and knowledge with fellow team members to advance cross-training and strategic integrated communications practices.
  • Execute integrated communication strategies based on a shared understanding of the College, including mission, vision, and values as well as institutional identity and brand strategy; its audiences and stakeholders; and our communications channels.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree from Grinnell College is required
  • One-year related work experience preferred but not required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and strong attention to detail is critical
  • Effectively researches potential issues, reconciles inconsistencies, and resolves issues
  • Actively participates in discussions, values feedback, and maintains integrity in professional relationships
  • Demonstrated aptitude and desire to be part of a collaborative, problem-solving team
  • Champions diversity, equity, and inclusion
