Are you passionate about learning, training, and creating engaging educational experiences? As an Instructional Designer Intern at DigiKey, you’ll gain hands-on experience developing training programs, eLearning content, and learning solutions that help employees grow and succeed.
Working alongside Learning & Development professionals and business leaders, you’ll contribute to real projects that support employee development while building valuable skills in instructional design, curriculum development, adult learning theory, and training technology.
This internship is based at DigiKey’s corporate headquarters in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, and includes company-provided local housing for interns.
What You’ll Do
- Design and develop engaging learning experiences for DigiKey employees
- Apply instructional design principles and adult learning theories to maximize learner engagement and retention
- Create training materials, curricula, and resources for instructor-led, virtual, and eLearning programs
- Partner with subject matter experts and stakeholders to develop effective learning solutions
- Assist with training needs analysis, skills assessments, and program evaluation
- Measure training effectiveness and help identify opportunities for continuous improvement
- Research and explore emerging learning technologies and instructional strategies
- Support ongoing Learning & Development initiatives and special projects

Qualifications
Required
- Rising Junior or Senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in:
- Instructional Design
- Learning Experience Design (LXD)
- Educational Technology
- Educational Psychology
- Learning & Development
- Or a related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Knowledge of instructional design models and adult learning principles
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Strong organizational and curriculum planning skills
- Willingness to take initiative and learn in a fast-paced environment
Preferred
- Project management experience
- Experience creating training or educational materials
- Familiarity with eLearning development tools
Preferred Technical Skills
Exposure to or experience with:
- Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams and Outlook
- Learning Management Systems (LMS), preferably Workday
- Course development tools, preferably Articulate
Housing & Location
This internship is located in Thief River Falls, MN and requires regular onsite attendance.
Local intern housing is provided, including a private bedroom, private bathroom, and shared living space.
Compensation
Pay is based on academic level and relevant experience.
Undergraduate Students
- $21.00 – $23.00 per hour
Graduate Students
- Master’s Degree: $26.00 per hour
- PhD Program: $29.00 per hour
